This weekend I did some POTA hunting and got my first POTA award.
On Saturday, I went to Los Trancos Preserve Parking Lot (37.32621, -122.17950) and did some POTA hunting. I got very strong signal from N6ERS and then I noticed that N6ERS is activating from US-0189 in Fremont, about 20 miles away from where I was hunting.
The next day (or yesterday), I went to Los Trancos Preserve Parking Lot but found that it was raining. So I drove across the bay and went to US-0189 (37.51233, -122.10921). And, I received CQ POTA from N6ERS again, from the same park.
So, I think, why not go to meet N6ERS in person? N6ERS told me that he was close to the visitor center, so I packed up my antenna and transceiver and drove to the visitor center. Then in the parking lot next to the visitor center, I saw a long yellow pipe, about 15 ft high, next to a van. That’s obviously an antenna! And then I met N6ERS.
It was such a surprising experience to meet another ham radio operator face-to-face. We talked about our ham radio experience (for me is none :D) and our radio equipment. N6ERS showed me his radio room, which is inside his van, a very compact and comfortable place.
I really enjoyed POTA and I will continue hunting next week.
